SF 51 – Lighted lamps on bicycles

SF 51 requires a bicycle to have front and rear lights from sunset to sunrise. The lights must be clearly visible from 300 feet. Additionally, the lamp must be on in snow, fog, sleet or rain. Failure to comply is a fine of $25, but if the violator repairs or replaces the lamp within 72 hours, the citation will be expunged.

SSB 3002 – Special minor farm driver’s permit

SSB 3002 allow the Iowa Department of Transportation to issue a class C or M driver’s license to those between 14 and 18 who live on a farm or are employed on a farm. The licensee may operate from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., is restricted to 50 miles from point of origin to destination, and is limited to one unrelated minor passenger in the vehicle. The licensee is prohibited from operating an electronic device while driving. The special minor permit is subject to suspension or revocation for the same reasons and in the same manner as any other driver’s license.

SSB 3021 – Disqualification of CDL for human trafficking

SSB 3021 complies with federal regulations related to a lifetime commercial driver’s license disqualification for those committing a felony involving a severe form of human trafficking while operating a commercial motor vehicle.

SSB 3022 – Federal compliance with odometer statements

SSB 3022 complies with regulations issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for odometer disclosure statements when registering and titling a motor vehicle. Under current law, a vehicle model that is at least 10 years old is exempted from the odometer disclosure statement. This bill will require a 20-year look-back.
